The Panther Collection: Rare and Coveted
Recently, VMM, has added some stunningly beautiful and incredibly rare finds to our collection. Two such pieces are this exquisite Kenneth Jay Lane vintage Panther Collection necklace and these Duchess Collection Panther earrings. These rare pieces were inspired by The Duchess of Windsor's jewelry collection and are extremely rare and very collectible.
A recent NY Times article points out "It isn't fake anything. It's real costume jewelry. And it's being worn -without apology - by women of every age and financial bracket." And this KJL piece is the epitome of that school of thought. These are the kind of statement pieces that can be worn just as beautifully with jeans and a tee shirt, as they can with a ball gown.
In fact, Kenneth Lane has recently revived these designs for his wholesale line and his 12 retail stores in the U.S. and Europe. The Duchess's flamingo and panther jewels were among the stellar attractions last April at the $50 million Sotheby's auction of her jewelry.
Another piece that we are excited about is this rare 1980's Yves Saint Laurent Modernist Statement Necklace. Anytime we are able to have a few pieces from YSL in our collection, we feel fortunate. And this particular necklace is signed and numbered. Its elegant gold tone is complimented by dark gunmetal change, giving the piece a polished and refined look with a bit of an artistic edge. It would be stunning with a crisp white shirt.
A little YSL history...
By the 1980's Saint Laurent's designs were considered to be classics in the fashion world. His jewelry line which was introduced in the 70's was colorful and theatrical tying in with many of his wildest clothing lines, and included metal medallions, whimsical enamels, and ethnic beaded pieces. This necklace harkens back to that era beautifully.
This rare French Couture find by Zoe Coste is also worth highlighting. It is a true statement piece and work of art. From the 1960's, it is signed Zoe Coste and made in France.
Ms. Coste's jewelry was sold in exclusive, very high end boutiques in the 1970's & early 1980's, it is scarce in the market place and becoming highly sought after by collectors, who've loved and hunted it for years! You will not see her jewelry often. It would be the perfect complement to a flowy summer dress.
These designer costume pieces are truly coveted and treasured and we are so honored to be able to include them in our collection.
